Happy November, friends!
Much has happened over the last two weeks. Regardless of your political leanings, it’s safe to say that a second Trump term in office will have impacts for us here in Canada. As our biggest trading partner, leaders will be watching for policies and their effect on our own economy. Sadly, November has also seen the passing of Murray Sinclair – judge, senator, and leader of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. May we carry forward his legacy.
I trust that this once-monthly Email is continuing to bring value to you in your role as a Winnipeg business leader or executive. If at any time you would like to be removed from this mailing, just reply with a ‘not for me’.
We now have a dedicated web page with a sign-up form to be added to my recipient list, along with links to all past editions of this Email. You can find it here: 365tech.ca/insights. Please feel free to pass this along to anyone you think might also enjoy this content.
Without further ado, here are the articles and upcoming events that caught my eye this month.

Cybersecurity / Technology
Let’s start with some nightmare fuel. If you needed any proof that ransomware attacks continue to be very successful and highly profitable for cyber criminals, here’s a site that shows recent successful attacks chronologically, including the ransomware group behind them. The site shows 180 victims already in November. Clicking on ‘victims by Country’ will show 376 successful attacks in Canada. The key take-away here? For most companies, a cyber attack is not a matter of ‘if’, but ‘when’. Leaders need to take this approach and plan for it. Hope is not a strategy.
Generative AI continues simplify automated content creation. Google’s AI research assistant, NotebookLM, now has an ‘audio overview’ feature – allowing users to feed in written content like research papers or Wikipedia articles and have robot podcast hosts ‘chat’ about the topic. The voices are shockingly realistic and the ‘hosts’ even interrupt each other. Cool? Scary? Both?
People are using Google study software to make AI podcasts—and they’re weird and amazing

Leadership & Personal Growth
With rising costs and housing prices driving more employees to seek additional income, managing team members with side hustles has become a new challenge for leaders. This article from MIT Sloan Review offers strategies for addressing side gigs thoughtfully, including open communication, setting clear boundaries, and appreciating the benefits these extra projects can bring to the workplace. By understanding employees’ motivations and maintaining flexibility, managers can create a balanced approach that supports both the employee’s financial goals and their contributions to the team.
